Here's your basic '65 Shelby Mustang. One of the things you'll notice immediately about this car is how good it looks while being so simply adorned. To make a Shelby GT350 replica, it's not what you add to the car but what you take off. This car loses much of the trim found on regular Mustangs, such as emblems and moldings. On the front of the car, the corral and pony are gone, and a smaller emblem is placed on the grille off to one side. The R-model GT350s were sans bumpers as well.

This K-Code fastback is one of the rare Mustangs which included the 271-horsepower solid lifter V8. This one wears blue California plates from the early 70’s and it is available here on Craigslist in Auburn, California for $29,950. With Shelby clones routinely fetching $25k, we think that authentic K-Code cars are the preferable buy. Set them up with performance modes but no Shelby stripes so they can be reverted to stock when the values eclipse driving sensibility. That “K” in the 5th position of the VIN is the key, and “R” in the second position means the car was built in the San Jose, California plant as all the Shelby fastbacks.
